Today’s book review stems from a book which was recommended to me by a very dear friend of mine. The book is titled ‘The Pleasure Of My Company’. This charming book was written by the award-winning actor Steve Martin.
The book tells a tale about Daniel Pecan Cambridge and the tragedies and triumphs he faces within the one-hundred and sixty-three pages of the novel. ‘The Pleasure Of My Company’ is filled with delightful mind-boggling analogies and grants the reader a whimsical view into the life and mind of the main character, Daniel Cambridge.
In the beginning the reader is introduced to Daniel’s zany antics and self-confined rule system, a system which often inhibits, and yet has the power to enhance his life. As the reader delves in further, he will be poured into a conconction of potions that contain Daniel’s romantic interests; while some are in fact bitter and old, there is a promise of one being sweet and new. Many of Daniel’s antics are as hilarious as they are heart-warming. By the end of the book, the reader is left with the joy of knowing that the most beautiful thing in the novel was Daniel’s mind; a mind which posessed such an unparalleled genius that even Mensa couldn’t refuse.
